Co-chair - Metropolitan A/Prof Kathryn Browning Carmo

Kathryn is the recent past Chair of the Medical Staff Council at the Children's Hospital at Westmead and a senior staff specialist neonatologist at the Grace Centre for Newborn Intensive Care and Deputy Director of NETS NSW. Her interests include the promotion of infant and child health as the most cost effective way to address 'Closing the Gap' and the current mental health and obesity crisis in NSW. Following a rural childhood she is passionate about creating a health service that reaches all families no matter where they reside. As Chair she hopes to continue the work of the NSW MSEC - making health a priority in election campaigns and continuing to advocate for better governance and statewide services for NSW.

 

co-chair - Rural and regional: Dr Kate Sellors

Kate trained in Emergency medicine at St Vincent’s hospital in Darlinghurst followed by a clinical fellowship in Toxicology at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick.

She is currently employed as a Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine at the Bowral & District Hospital and is the medical lead for Event Medical Services which provides critical care for patrons attending large-scale music festivals. Her interests include resuscitation, toxicology and education. She is the chair of the Bowral Medical Staff Council and is passionate about improving access to health care, health outcomes and finding solutions to the critical shortage of health professionals in rural, regional and remote NSW.

 

 

Deputy chair - Dr Setthy Ung

Setthy is the Medical Staff Council Chair of Campbelltown & Camden Hospitals as well as for the South West Sydney Local Health District Medical Staff Executive Council.

His primary role in the public hospital system is as a Senior Staff Specialist in Emergency Medicine & General Paediatrics. He strongly believes in advocacy for all patients, families, cultures and communities to ensure equity of access to health services and assigns the highest priority to the fight to ensure the wellbeing and respect for all medical, nursing and allied health staff alike

 

 

Secretary - Dr Mark Priestley

Mark is the head of department in Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine and current chair of the Medical Staff Council at Westmead Hospital. He is also chair of the Leadership and Management Special Interest Group of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, the Australian Society of Anaesthetists and the New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists. He is a firm believer in greater clinician leadership in the public healthcare system and has an interest in cultivating leadership and management skills in medical staff.

Immediate past Rural chairs - Dr Ruth arnold and Dr tony joseph 2017-2022

 Ruth trained in Cardiology at the RNSH, St Vincent's Hospital and POWH and following this took up a position as a cardiologist in Orange in 2001. Ruth is the current Chair of the Orange Health Service Medical Staff Council and the Director of the Department of Cardiology in the Orange Health Service, Western NSWLHD. She is Co-Chair of the Rural Working Party, Cardiology with the Agency of Clinical Innovation and is the clinical lead of the implementation of the ECG reading service and Statewide Cardiology Reperfusion Strategy (SCRS) for WNSWLHD and a member of the Cardiology ACI SCRS Steering Committee. Her interests include diagnostic coronary angiography, heart failure, echo and trans-oesophageal echo, models of cardiac care and service provision improvement in rural areas. Ruth is a member of the Medical Benefits Scheme Review taskforce for Cardiology.

Dr Tony Joseph (FACEM) is an Emergency Physician and Trauma Director at RNSH. Tony has been a previous Chairperson of the RNSH Medical Staff Council from 2008-2012 and is the current Treasurer. He has been a long time advocate for the public health system and has been closely involved in promoting both Emergency Medicine and Trauma care. He is also involved in clinical research as well as the teaching and education of junior doctors, nurses and allied health professionals both locally and in developing countries. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Discipline of Emergency Medicine, Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney and has been a tutor for medical students at USyd for many years.
